What is Early Music?
- Early Music is the ancestor of today's classical music. It is
music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical
eras, from A.D. 850 to 1850.
- It is music played on period instruments, like recorders, viols,
lutes, sackbuts, and harpsichords, and sung with agility, lightness,
and purity of sound.
- It is important not just because of the seeds it planted for the
future; this music is exciting and fresh, with a different palette
of sound and a free, improvisatory character.
Why Attend an Early Music Guild Concert?
- The Early Music Guild brings you the best artists from around the
world: ensembles from England, Holland, Germany, Italy, France,
Canada, and of course, all over the United States.
- The music is exciting and vital. The performers combine
their deep insight of the music and its history with passionate
commitment and a fresh approach for performances that are vibrant
and alive.
- Friendly, informal pre-concert lectures help acquaint you with the
music in its cultural and historical context.
Thanks to KING-FM for their
help in presenting these concerts.
